'Death Stranding' is getting a whole album of music composed for the game by big artists, like CHVRCHES, Major Lazer, and the Neighbourhood.

Over the past few years, when Kojima was keeping tight-lipped on what Death Stranding was, the only information we had to go on was his Twitter account. He was sharing where he was in the world and who was visiting his studio. It's where we learned the game's engine was going to be borrowed from Horizon Zero Dawn's developer Guerilla Games, that the game would star Mads Mikkelsen and Norman Reedus, and lots of other small details. However, something that wasn't made clear until recently, was that the bands Kojima took selfies with were all recording songs for the game, too.

Though, the hint was pretty clear:

Sony has now announced that it's releasing an album alongside Death Stranding called Timefall, named after the strange rain in the game's world. It's going to feature songs from artists such as Major Lazer x Khalid, The Neighbourhood, and Bring Me the Horizon. While we're going to have to wait until the game is out to hear the full album. CHVRCHES has already released their track, also called 'Death Stranding'.

You can listen to it below (or here if you're reading this on mobile):

Here's the full track and artist listing:

  • "Trigger" Major Lazer x Khalid
  • "Ghost" Au/Ra x Alan Walker
  • "Death Stranding" CHVRCHES
  • "YELLOW BOX" The Neighbourhood
  • "Meanwhile...In Genova" The S.L.P.
  • "Ludens" Bring Me the Horizon
  • "Born in The Slumber" Flora Cash
  • "Sing to Me" MISSIO

If you want to get the album, it's going to be sold separately, but it's also included in the Special Edition and Collector's Edition bundles.

I'm all for bands working on music for games. 65daysofstatic did an awesome job on the score for No Man's Sky, and I think we call agree that Hotline Miami's soundtrack slaps. Or even when a single well-known song is incorporated into a game, like when you first cross the border into Mexico in Red Dead Redemption and Jose Gonzalez's 'Far Away' begins to play.

Hopefully the music in Death Stranding is woven in with the same care.Featured Image Credit: Sony
