PlayStation confirms its next major exclusive is headed to PC after PS5 launch

PlayStation has announced that a Final Fantasy XVI PC port will enter development following its launch on PS5.

Despite the disastrous launch of The Last Of Us Part I on PC, PlayStation hasn’t been deterred from future ports of PS5 exclusives. Final Fantasy XVI will be the next major console exclusive to be ported to PC, with development planned to start shortly after the game’s upcoming launch.

This was confirmed by Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida in a recent interview. Many saw this coming, as most Final Fantasy titles tend to make their way onto PC at some point. No release date information has been provided as of yet, but most PlayStation exclusives typically take a year to launch on PC.

The Last Of Us Part I was an exception to this rule, which proved to be costly given the horrendous state of its release. Plagued with performance issues and glitches, the beloved Naughty Dog title was savagely review bombed, with sales alarmingly low, despite the series reputation and the success of the TV show adaptation. The release was so bad, that it actually contributed to demands from gamers for playable demos of new games, so performance and quality can be tested before a full-purchase.

Safe to say, PlayStation will want to avoid another catastrophe, so we’ll likely see a PC port of Final Fantasy XVI sometime after its PS5 launch, so the developers at Square Enix have enough time for development and polishing.

Final Fantasy XVI will be launching exclusively for PlayStation 5 on 22 June. The latest instalment plans to drastically change the formula followed by previous games, opting for an action-based combat system rather than the turn-based one.
