'Days Gone' Studio Reportedly Starting Work On A PS5 Title

Days Back?

Sony Bend, the studio behind this year's divisive PS4-exclusive Days Gone is apparently gearing up start work on its next game, which is widely believed to be a PlayStation 5 title. Whether it's a sequel to Days Gone, something entirely new remains to be seen.

As noticed by the fine folk at DualShockers, Sony Bend's lighting lead Jeremy Vickery recently updated his LinkedIn work experience to include a reference to his work on Days Gone, which also noted that the studio's next project has reached the pre-development stage.

This is hardly official confirmation of course, but developers often seem to forget that we can all see what they're sharing on LinkedIn so we can safely assume that Vickery's comments can be taken at face value.

We can also virtually guarantee that since the PS5 is arriving at the end of next year and Sony Bend's mystery game is only just entering the pre-development stage, it's going to be a next-gen title and not a PS4 game. Again, unconfirmed... but highly likely.

The question, then, is what could Sony Bend be cooking up for us this time? The most obvious guess is Days Gone 2, of course. The first game, released in January this year, launched to fairly middling reviews, but certainly sold well enough to justify Sony green-lighting a sequel.

Days Gone certainly had plenty of potential and more than its fair share of good ideas, so it could really benefit from a sequel on PS5. In our review at the time, we said that Days Gone wasn't quite the showstopping Sony exclusive people had been hoping for, with dull sidequests, a bland open world, and less-than-stellar writing.

Other reviews seemed to agree, with critics arguing that Days Gone simply couldn't quite decide what kind of game it wanted to be. That didn't stop people from enjoying the adventure of course, and more power to them for that. Personally, I thought it was a fine game and would welcome any improvements a sequel could bring.

There's also the chance that the studio could be working on an entirely new IP, of course, but there's one other exciting possibility. Long before Days Gone, Sony Bend were known for their work on the underrated stealth action franchise Syphon Filter.

We haven't seen a new entry in that particular series since 2007 on PSP, and there'd doubtless be more than a few folk who'd be happy to see it make a return. We'll have to wait and see.
