Didn't purchase a PlayStation 5 yet? Well, dry your eyes. Sony has seemingly pointed towards a new PS5 model releasing in 2023 in an interview with its vice president about the future of the console.
This is the point when we pretend like we had no clue this was happening. A PS5 possessing a detachable disc drive is apparently in developers' hands now, according to a notable industry insider, and this is intended to replace the current console that is on the shelves when it is launched in late 2023.
Even if we hadn't heard whispers on the wind of the new model, Famitsu keenly highlighted that the PlayStation 4 Pro came out in the third year of the predecessor's lifespan. We will be, mathematically and indisputably, in that third year of the PS5's era in 2023 and so the magazine queried if there were any upgrades waiting in the wings.

"We believe that cumulative sales will exceed 37 million units by the end of fiscal 2022, and that it will be a very important time for the platform as well," answered Hideaki Nishino. "I won't be able to talk about specifics at this time, but I hope that you will look forward to next year (2023)." So, he's not specifically said that there's an evolution on the PS5 in development, but he's not specifically said that there isn't, either. If it didn't exist, the easiest thing to do would be to deny it. Nishino's played his cards close to his chest instead so we'll be sure to keep an eye out for any updates from Sony on this front.
Recently, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan acknowledged the supply issues in Asian countries and that customers in this part of the world will no longer struggle to secure a PS5 for themselves. "We would like to report that we have resolved the long-term supply issues of the PlayStation 5 and we will be able to deliver to Japan and Asia customers from year-end shopping season and into 2023," said Ryan earlier this month.
