Earlier this week we got official confirmation from Sony that the PlayStation 5 doesn't have a web browser. However, it's now been discovered that the next-gen console does in fact offer a way to let users surf the web. Getting to it involves a fairly convoluted process and you'd be much quicker simply checking your phone or laptop mind you, but it is there.
SIE senior vice president Hideaki Nishino said in a recent interview (via Push Square) that the company doesn't intend to include a browser, expressing doubts about whether or not anyone even uses browser apps on consoles. They definitely do for watching porn, according to certain statistics, but Nishino said that we'd have to "wait and see" whether or not one is added down the line.
The good news is that you don't have to wait for one to officially drop, as it seems to already be there. As reported by ArsTechnica, the PS5's hidden browser can be accessed by going to the 'Users And Accounts' section of the PS5 settings. What you need to do from here is select "Link With Other Services" and then select Twitter.

Doing this takes you to... a Web Browser! While you can't do much from this first page, clicking the small Twitter logo in the top left corner will direct you to what looks like Twitter's browser-based UI. Log in here, and you're using a browser-based version of Twitter which will allow you to click on links and explore the wider web.
This isn't a perfect solution, I grant you. The PS5 won't let you directly type anything into the browser search bar, but if you can find it through Twitter, it looks like you can get there. Now I guess it's up to you to scour Twitter for porn if you really insist on containing to use your console for that kind of thing. Given that 51.5% of all console traffic on Pornhub came from PS4, I expect folk will find a way to continue into next-gen.
The PlayStation 5 arrives in the UK and Europe on November 19th, but it's available in the US and Japan right now. Just seven more days to go guys. Seven long days.
