PlayStation is finally adding more PS1 games to PS4, PS5

Last year saw PlayStation release its overhauled PlayStation Plus subscription service. The new version allows users to choose between the essential, extra, and premium tiers. The main draw of the pricey premium tier is that it was due to offer access to nostalgic PS1 and PS2 era titles, but the offering has been pretty underwhelming so far.

This month, all PS Plus subscribers can download Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout 76, and Axiom Verge 2 for free. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order couldn’t have fallen at a more perfect time. I definitely recommend checking it out ahead of Jedi: Survivor’s March release. This week, the extra and premium tier catalogue additions were also revealed and premium subscribers are finally gaining access to some new PS1 titles.

January’s premium line-up includes three PS1 titles: Syphon Filter 3, Star Wars Demolition and Hot Shots Golf 2. Syphon Filter 3’s addition has been rumoured for quite some time given the fact that Syphon Filter and Syphon Filter 2 are already available on the platform. The third instalment isn’t the highest-rated in the series, but this version has been enhanced with up-rending, rewind and quick save options, plus custom video filters.

Star Wars Demolition allows you to choose from over 10 iconic Star Wars vehicles, battling it out across a series of arenas. Just like Syphon Filter 3, the title has received the same aforementioned upgrades. Admittedly, Star Wars Demolition has never been particularly well received and is often criticised for its length and difficulty but if you’re on a mission to play every Star Wars game, then this is one for you.

Finally, there’s Hot Shots Golf 2 - also known as Everybody’s Golf 2. If you’re not familiar with this one, yes. It is a golf simulator. It’s a fun one but you won’t find anything revolutionary here. Let’s hope the PS1 additions keep coming.
