PlayStation Plus Latest Free Games Are Live, But Subscribers Warn Against Downloading

"Sony needs to know how terrible it is"

The PlayStation Plus free games for December 2021 are available to download and keep now, but subscribers are warning one another not to download one of the festive month's offerings.

Last week, PlayStation confirmed that the three free games for December 2021 would be the Souls-like Mortal Shell, action-adventure LEGO DC Super Villains, and PlayStation 5 launch title Godfall.

Except it was quickly discovered that Godfall is not the full game. Instead, PS Plus users can download Godfall: Challenger Edition, which is a version of the game that contains a handful of endgame content and modes, but none of the campaign.

"The Challenger Edition focuses on three unique modes: Lightbringer, Dreamstones, and the Ascended Tower of Trials," a post on the PlayStation Blog explains. "All three are endgame-level content..Godfall: Challenger Edition players can upgrade at any time to the Deluxe Edition gaining access to both Godfall and Fire & Darkness campaigns."

Naturally, this hasn't gone down well with users who feel claiming it this month sends a message to PlayStation that this is okay.

"Don’t download it, don’t even add it to your library," urged one user. "Sony needs to know how terrible it is that they included a glorified demo as the headline PS Plus game for the month. It’s one thing to include a game that people consider bad, it’s another thing to include an incomplete experience and think it’s ok."

"The fact that they had the nerve to have a DEMO of a game included in PS Plus is shocking to say the least," added another. "We should fight this bullsh*t by not even adding this garbage to our libraries, otherwise they might get the idea that this sh*t is passable and do it in the future."

For its part, Godfall developer Counterplay Games has defended the move and insisted it's absolutely "not a trial". Kind of sounds like a trial to me, to be honest.
