PlayStation Plus' new free games 'worst' players have seen in a 'long time'

May’s free PlayStation Plus games have dropped, but players are disappointed, believing it’s the “worst month” seen in a “long time.”

May’s free PlayStation Plus games have dropped, but players are disappointed with this month’s selection, believing it’s the “worst month” seen in a “long time.”

Every month, PlayStation users on both PS4 and PS5 can access three free games, provided they have at least the bottom tier of PlayStation Plus. These games can then be downloaded, kept and played at no additional cost, as long as there’s still a valid subscription active on the account.

However this month’s selection has greatly disappointed subscribers, who have voiced their dissatisfaction on Reddit. The three games available this month are Chivalry 2, Grid: Legends and Descenders, all of which can be played on PS4 or PS5.

Despite not being bad games by any means, they just don’t live up to previous titles PS Plus has offered, such as FromSoftware’s Bloodborne, or Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake. They also haven’t hit the mark for variety, two of which being racing games which don’t appeal to everyone, and Chivalry 2 being an online-multiplayer title, which does little for players that prefer single-player experiences.

Disgruntled users reacted to this month’s free games via Reddit, also criticising the lack of variety, and simply not appealing to a large majority of players.

One person said: “Hate racing games and multiplayer games so 2/3 are dead on arrival for me. Third was fine but 1000000% not my thing at all.”

This was supported by another commenter, who stated: ”I hope the ps plus extra games will be better than the essential of this month. Chivalry is funny but the other racing games are awful, the worst month by far.”

Another acknowledged that previous months were superior, with May’s line-up being a swing-and-a-miss by comparison, stating: “For the last few months I very much enjoyed pretty much all the "free" games, but I have 0 interest in these 3 for May.

One PS Plus subscriber said it best by simply saying: “This is the worst month I've seen in a long time”

Hopefully June’s PlayStation Plus games are a return to form for the subscription service.
