PlayStation quietly shuts down two popular games for good

Bad news, folks - two multiplayer PlayStation games have just been shut down for good, leaving players with no choice but to move on to other things.

I’m not going to lie, I always worry about getting attached to live-service games for this very reason. With any single-player game (or even multiplayer games which still have a single-player mode, for that matter), you always know that no matter what, so long as you keep your game disc, cartridge or download safe, you’ll be able to continue playing it long into the future, if that’s what your nostalgic heart desires. Sadly, the same can’t be said for games which rely solely on multiplayer servers to function.

Earlier this year, Apex Legends Mobile was shut down a year after its launch, but fans can still play on PC and consoles. Take a look at some funny wins and fails below.

As ComicBook reports, this is exactly what happened to Lemnis Gate and Dreadnought yesterday (11 July). They’ve both been shut down on all platforms, meaning that Dreadnought players on PC are also affected, as are Lemnis Gate fans on PC, Xbox One and Series X/S.

In case you were unfamiliar, Dreadnought was a free-to-play flight sim shooter game which first landed on PS4 in 2017. As the captain of a huge spaceship, players were able to duke it out in 8v8 matches, shooting down enemy ships using a variety of weapons.

Meanwhile, Lemnis Gate was a turn-based strategy FPS, with 25-second rounds taking place within time loops. The “time-warping” game encouraged players to consider the past, present and future while they laid out their strategies in an attempt to take down enemies. This one released in September 2021, so it’s really not been going for very long at all.

Again, there’s no way to play either of these two games anymore, so it’s truly the end of an era for anyone who was still an avid fan.
