PlayStation teases classic PS2 series revival for PS5

PlayStation teases classic PS2 series revival for PS5

PlayStation are teasing the revival of Siren in honour of the game's upcoming 20th anniversary.

Well, it’s another win for nostalgia. If these latest teases are anything to go by, it looks as if Sony may be reviving the classic PS2 horror series Siren for the PlayStation 5. That’s something I’m sure many of us would like to see.

Remakes and remasters are all the rage right now as we all crave a dose of our favourite titles of yesteryear. If you look at 2023’s highest rated games, Dead Space, Resident Evil 4, and Metroid Prime Remastered occupy several of the top spots. At last month’s PlayStation Showcase, it was revealed that a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake is on the way, plus Croc HD is finally on the way. How’re we feeling about that, all my fellow Croc: Legend of the Gobbos fans? Next up, PlayStation are teasing that horror series Siren may be the next franchise to make a comeback.

Take a look at the reveal trailer for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater below.

Siren, also known as Forbidden Siren, was released on the PS2 all the way back in 2003. Developed by Japan Studio, Siren focuses on a series of interconnected characters who can essentially hear and see what nearby characters hear and see. The ten primary characters are survivors of a supernatural disaster, so you’ll spend time trying to escape town following the disaster while also trying to work out what happened. That involves the rather creepy Shibito.

A sequel, Forbidden Siren 2, was later released in 2006, followed by a third instalment called Siren: Blood Curse which was a retelling of the first game. If you’ve played the PS5’s Astro’s Playroom, you may have spotted a nod to the game. This year, Siren will turn 20 years old and as reported by PushSquare, PlayStation are teasing a two-part celebration event.

PlayStation Japan announced the ‘Siren in Namjatown Festival’ which runs from 14 July to 3 September, plus the ‘Ikai-Iri Siren 20th Anniversary’ held from 3 August to 5 August. It’s not yet clear exactly what either event entails but it would be great to see these games made playable in the modern age. Let’s hope that’s the case.
