'The Last Of Us' Composer Will Score HBO TV Show

'The Last Of Us' Composer Will Score HBO TV Show

That's music to our ears.

Last week brought us the exciting news that the hugely popular Naughty Dog game and PlayStation exclusive, The Last of Us, is getting its own TV adaptation to be aired on HBO. And just yesterday, it was confirmed that composer Gustavo Santaolalla will join the team to score the show.

Neil Druckmann took to Twitter to make the exciting announcement, describing Santaolalla as an "incredible musical talent". Fans of The Last of Us should recognise the name as the man behind the series' soundtrack: Santaolalla is responsible for the atmospheric score in The Last of Us and returned to work with the team on the soundtrack for the hugely anticipated, upcoming sequel, The Last of Us Part II.

At the very least, the move should reassure fans that may be worried how the TV show will pan out - let's face it, game to TV/movie adaptations don't generally do very well. So snagging the guy behind the soundtrack of the games to work on the show can only strengthen its feeling of authenticity.

And Santaolalla isn't new to scoring for TV either. He's worked on a number of shows and movies, including the Netflix documentary Making a Murderer, and the movie Brokeback Mountain.

More details have been slowly emerging since the initial announcement of the upcoming The Last of Us TV show last week. The series will concentrate on the events of the first game, though we don't know if the series will cover the entire storyline or just part of it - which would obviously leave room for a subsequent series. We do know that it will be written and produced by the game's director Druckmann, alongside Chernobyl creator, Craig Mazin.

Earlier this week, Druckmann gave us a look - again, via Twitter - at some of the characters we can expect to see in the TV show. Obviously, Ellie is in there, and she will be joined by Riley, Tess, Marlene, Maria, as well as a "few others". And interestingly, one name was blanked out in the tweet, so it looks like we have at least one more surprise to look forward to.

There's no news yet on when The Last of Us HBO adaptation will air, but it's probably fair to say we'll have quite a wait. On the plus side, The Last of Us Part II is set for release in a couple of months, on May 29, so you won't have too long to wait to get your next Ellie fix.
