Pro gamer Twisten dead at 19 after sending concerning final tweet

The Valorant and esports community are mourning the loss of Karel "Twisten" Ašenbrener, who has passed away at the age of 19 following a battle with depression.

Twisten was a pro gamer with a successful career in esports, where he mostly played Valorant in several regional and international competitions. Beginning his career in 2020, Twisten played for a few organisations like eSuba, building a reputation as a skilled, up-and-coming professional player.

This eventually led to Team Vitality in 2022 where he competed in additional Valorant competitions, such as the Valorant Champions Tour and EMEA League earlier this year.

Twisten shared a final, concerning message with his audience on Twitter, before his unfortunate passing was announced.

Team Vitality shared the following statement on the devastating news: “We are heartbroken to share with you that our VALORANT player Karel "Twisten" Ašenbrener passed away last night

“We are deeply saddened by this devastating loss, and our first thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this difficult time,"

Riot Games, the development team for Valorant, also shared their condolences and support in a statement that said: "Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, teammates at Vitality and members of the VALORANT community impacted by the news. We extend our support to his family and team during this exceptionally difficult time,"

Twisten Vitality teammates also responded to the tragic news, sharing their respects for the 19-year-old, and mourning the loss of their friend.

Team captain Santeri "BONECOLD" Sassi described Twisten as "the most genuine human I've met, always had us smiling."

This was followed by Michał "MOLSI" Łącki who added Vitality had lost a "teammate, friend, and brother" going on to say: "I don't have a words that can describe how I'm feeling right now. He was a big talent with big aspirations to become the best. I love you Karel, farewell my friend," said MOLSI.”
