Despite releasing almost four full years ago now, Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the most visually impressive games available on modern consoles. And that’s without a new-gen upgrade.
The title is so pretty, in fact, that a screenshot of it recently won an award at the London Games Festival, in an event “[celebrating] the new artistic medium of virtual photography”. The game’s photorealism combined with the screenshot’s fancy composition make it easy to see why it won.

Just in case you thought the game couldn’t look any better though, as reported by DSOGaming, one content creator has posted a video highlighting the power of the NVIDIA RTX 4090 with a showcase of different games running in both 4K and 8K, one of which being everyone’s favourite yeehaw game. Viewing on YouTube with a maximum 4K viewing quality, the true scale of these upgraded visuals probably isn’t shining through, but looking at the two clips back to back, there’s a pretty clear difference in the lighting and overall smoothness of the world. DSOGaming writes that the creator used DLSS 2 Quality Mode in order to achieve a playable frame rate at 8K, and although it may not be totally consistent, it still works very well, and for RDR2, the frame rate stays between around 50 and 60FPS for the entire clip.

Of course, there’s also a few more games to drool over in the video - Cyberpunk 2077 looks positively beautiful, as does Ghostwire: Tokyo and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered - the RTX 4090's power sure seems juicy. Meanwhile, it was recently reported that the RTX 4090 Ti has been cancelled, due to it allegedly melting itself, which is probably the last thing that anyone would want. Rest assured, this issue hasn’t been reported in the regular 4090.
