Red Dead Redemption 2 PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X port appears online

Red Dead Redemption 2 PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X port appears online

Rockstar Games were seemingly working on a new-gen port of Red Dead Redemption 2 at one point in time, according to a leaked document.

Rockstar Games appear to be hiding a secret little project up their sleeve. It’s been revealed that a new-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2 was in the works at one point.

Rockstar Games kicked up somewhat of a ruckus earlier this year when their rumoured ‘remake’ of Red Dead Redemption ended up being a rather pricey port instead. It’s most definitely not what fans were hoping for. It’s not the only Red Dead project though. Now, this morning, a ton of documents used during Microsoft’s trial against the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) leaked online. We discovered that Xbox will soon release a new console, plus Bethesda is working on a remaster of Fallout 3. Rockstar Games got dragged into the mess after one document referenced a new-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Take a look at some of our favourite Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails below.

Fans have been asking for a new-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for years, and I’m surprised it’s yet to land. By the looks of an internal Xbox email though, it’s something Rockstar has worked on at one point in time. Corporate vice president for Microsoft Sarah Bond mentioned the game in an email to Xbox head Phil Spencer. While speculating on the company's 2023 financial year release slate, a chart makes reference to “T2/RDR2”. This assumedly stands for Take-Two Interactive, Red Dead Redemption 2.

Next to this, we see a proposed launch of ‘FY23Q2.’ The 2023 financial year runs from April 2023 to April 2024. Q2 is the second quarter, so this window runs from July to September 2023. Clearly, the release didn’t hit this launch estimate but that’s to be expected. In the next column, titled ‘Likely to close’, it reads ‘very low’. We can’t be entirely sure of what this means but it sounds as if Microsoft weren’t 100% certain of Rockstar’s plans.

Microsoft seemingly rated the port a ‘medium’ in the ‘Wow Factor’ column, with the additional notes reading, ‘Wildcards: Doubtful on PC … or, handle via account linking?” These documents were written in 2022 and there are rumours that a new-gen update may have been cancelled, so take all of this with a pinch of salt until any plans are confirmed by Rockstar.
