Red Dead Redemption 2 'long overdue' 60fps is all we've ever wanted

Red Dead Redemption 2 'long overdue' 60fps is all we've ever wanted

Fans want a 60fps upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2

In more ways than one, Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the greatest video games of all time but even the best video games have room for improvement.

Released in 2018 by Rockstar Games for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the critically acclaimed sequel to the 2010 game starring John Martson. More accurately, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the 2010 release with its story telling the tale of the early years of the Dutch van der Linde game in which players assume the role of Arthur Morgan.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a massive map filled with activities such as bounty hunting, fishing, tracking legendary animals to craft luxury items, mini-games and much more. Of course, it’s also packed with immersive stories that will keep you engaged throughout the campaign. What’s more, nearly six years after it was initially released, Red Dead Redemption 2 still looks gorgeous.

Unfortunately, at least on console, Red Dead Redemption 2 is locked at 30 frames per second, even when being played on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Fans have been calling for a 60fps update since the launch of the latest consoles in November 2020, yet thus far, those calls have been ignored by Rockstar Games. Just to speculate, it wouldn't be surprising if Rockstar Games is holding out for a current-gen re-release rather than issuing a free update to existing owners of Red Dead Redemption 2.

With that in mind, fans on Reddit have been discussing what video games they’d like to see receive a 60fps upgrade and amongst others, Red Dead Redemption 2 was up for discussion. “Which games are overdue for a 60fps upgrade?” asked Satanic_Earmuff.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Red Dead Redemption 2!” demanded JBishie. “Red Dead Redemption 2, Batman: Arkham Knight, Starfield, Far Cry 3 Classic Edition, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag,” replied killakev564. “I would literally kill for a new-gen patch or update for RDR2,” exclaimed a somewhat concerning ShiftyShankerton.

Sadly, unless Rockstar Games is feeling oddly generous I wouldn't expect a free Red Dead Redemption 2 60fps upgrade to arrive at any point. As I said earlier, that will likely come at a financial cost but I hope that I’m wrong.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
