Red Dead Redemption 3 update is sending fans into a frenzy

Red Dead Redemption actor gives fans an update on the third game in the series

Red Dead Redemption is one of Rockstar Games’ biggest franchises and fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next entry in the series, though we will have to be very patient.

The Red Dead Redemption series first began in 2010 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Well, that’s not including the linear but fun Red Dead Revolver of 2004 for PS2 and the original Xbox. Fans will have to hold their horses for the third numbered entry in the series with no release date announced by Rockstar Games. That being said, it will be a safe assumption to make that it won't arrive until after GTA VI, which is expected to be released in 2025.

However, Rockstar Games has at least confirmed the inevitable that at some point we will be treated to Red Dead Redemption 3. But the question is, when will it be set and what story will it tell? It seems that John Marston actor, Rob Wiethoff, the protagonist of 2010 and a recurring character in 2018, may have the answer.

Featured in an interview with YouTube channel Sackchief, a clip was shared on Reddit with Rob Wiethoff talking about his expectations for Red Dead Redemption 3. Wiethoff explained that for a sequel to work, it might have to be another prequel, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2.

The original game is set in 1911 with its sequel being set in 1899. If Red Dead Redemption 3 was set post-1911, it would lose much of its Wild West identity, so the next game in theory should be set pre-1899.

Wiethoff also explained that he’d love to learn more about the infamous Blackwater heist, a story beat that was only told as lore during Red Dead Redemption and its (pre) sequel. So exploring that lore would surely be a welcomed story for fans. Whether Red Dead Redemption 3 will transpire the events of Black Water, only time will tell.

It’s possible that Red Dead Redemption 3 might be released for PC PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S but it may even be a next-gen title.
