Fans are worried that a remake of Red Dead Redemption will be as disastrously bad as the Grand Theft Auto: Trilogy, and rightly so.
Prominent Rockstar Games leakers have been reporting a full-on remake of Red Dead Redemption is on the way, that’ll supposedly recreate the game with the Red Dead Redemption 2 game engine.
While it’s been repeatedly rumoured to be a remake, not a remaster, until official confirmation from Rockstar, fans are worried it’ll be a similar story to the buggy, underdeveloped mess that was the GTA: Trilogy- The Definitive Edition.

The GTA: Trilogy was a remaster that took the original GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas, and updated the 20+-year-old graphics to look more modern. Fans were incredibly disappointed, not only because the updated graphics somehow made the games look worse, but also due to a range of bizarre bugs and glitches that made many missions unplayable.
Safe to say fans aren’t willing to go through a similar nightmare with Red Dead Redemption, especially given the game’s critical acclaim.
Fans discussed their concern in a Reddit thread, titled “This is why I will get anxious if Rockstar releases a remaster of Red Dead Redemption” which was accompanied by an image of the horrifying GTA “ remaster”.

Many held the same opinion that a return to the first Red Dead Redemption should be a remake, with anything less being a waste of time.
“Just let it die with dignity rather than remastering it.I would like to see a proper remake though.”

“They wouldn’t even have to do much remastering. Most of the red dead map was already re done for rdr 2. They could literally take most of what they’ve already done for red dead 2 and apply it to a remake. Update/ redo what’s left and then charge 70$ for it. Which I will happily pay!”
“I don’t want a remaster for the same reason. I want a remake.”
While it’s still unknown if a Red Dead Redemption remake is officially in development, it hasn’t stopped fans hoping to see John Marston’s return. They’re not the only ones either, as the voice actor for Marston, Rob Wiethoff, has expressed interest in returning for a remake, as well as Red Dead Redemption 3 if Rockstar decides to make a third game.
