Red Dead Redemption re-release is a full remake, not GTA Trilogy-style remaster

Red Dead Redemption re-release is a full remake, not GTA Trilogy-style remaster

A Red Dead Redemption re-release will reportedly be a full-on remake, not a remaster like the nightmare-fuel that was the GTA Trilogy

Fans have been calling for a Red Dead Redemption remake for years, some of which have been taking matters into their own hands and recreating aspects of the original game in Red Dead Redemption 2.

While it’d be great to see Rockstar Games get back in the saddle and bring back the original, I’m sure many are reluctant to get their hopes up after the nightmare that was the Grand Theft Auto: Trilogy- The Definitive Edition. What was supposed to be a loving remaster of three classic GTA games, was a warped, buggy mess that somehow made the games worse than when they shipped 20+ years ago.

It’s safe to say many fans aren’t interested in seeing the first Red Dead Redemption remade unless it’s given the care it deserves, and according to rumours and leaks, that might be exactly what we’re getting.

A Reddit thread titled “Red dead Redemption will be a remake not a remaster according to previous leaks” shared information from “legitimate leakers” who have a “good track record” of reporting credible information on the Grand Theft Auto series. The leaked info, contained in a deleted Tweet linked in the thread, states Red Dead Redemption 1 is getting remade with Red Dead Redemption 2’s game-engine.

As the post rightfully points out, the deleted tweet is from 2021, meaning it needs to be taken with a good handful of salt, but a full-blown remake isn’t entirely out of the question, especially given the critically-acclaimed status of the game.

Gamers aren’t the only ones hoping for a remake either, Rob Wiethoff, who provides the voice for the beloved Red Dead protagonist John Marston, has said he’d love to return for a remake of the game, and has even expressed interest in a role in Red Dead Redemption 3 If Rockstar decide to make a third game.

In the meantime, fans will need to keep their ears to the ground and hope Rockstar officially announces a remake soon. We’re still waiting for an official first-look at Grand Theft Auto VI, a highly-anticipated title that we still know very little about, though leaks and rumours suggest it’ll be the biggest game Rockstar has made, in both scale and gameplay features.
