Red Dead Redemption fans are desperate to know what the franchise's future holds, with one recent story idea proving to be a hit.

Red Dead Redemption fans are desperate to know what the franchise’s future holds. For now, Rockstar Games’ sight appears to be set firmly on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, but surely they’d be silly not to return to their former rootin’ tootin’ hit.

What might a Red Dead Redemption 3 look like? Well, that’s a question fans have been attempting to answer, with a recent mock-up capturing a fair bit of attention. The envisaged Red Dead Renegade is the work of Reddit user mrdaiquiri and quickly garnered hundreds of upvotes. “Red Dead Renegade takes place in 1876 and follows Clarence Lewis, a soldier with the United States 10th Cavalry Regiment who deserts after witnessing the brutality of a separate regiment and becomes the title's renegade,” the user began.

It would be wrong to mention GTA VI and then not provide the trailer to fawn over for the umpteenth time.

User mrdaiquiri continued, “The story is conveyed partly through flashbacks and covers Clarence's military career, as well as the moment he deserted and him being chased down by the military for doing so. The biggest character to return from previous games is a younger (but still just as condescending, amoral, and cowardly) Major Henry Favours.” It’s a premise that certainly offers promise.

“This is probably one of the few ideas for another game in the series where I thought damn, that actually sounds pretty cool. Well done OP. Thanks for being original and not making the 10 millionth ‘This game should follow the gang leading up to Blackwater’ post,” Paul-Kersey replied, while sean_saves_the_world added, “Honestly, I've been saying for a while now. The series needs to ditch the outlaw turned down gooder trope and try something like you've described here with a morally good character becoming disillusioned and becoming dishonored, and the narrative would focus on buying into your newfound outlaw reputation or rise above it.”

It goes without saying that this is merely a fan idea. We have no idea what Rockstar plans to do with Red Dead Redemption, or even if the franchise has a future for that matter. As far as mock-up ideas go though, this is a good one. Who knows? Maybe we’ll return here in several years time and say, damn, mrdaiquiri was right on the money.
