This free Red Dead Redemption 2 mod changes everything

The word “masterpiece” gets thrown around quite a lot in the world of entertainment whether it’s a movie, TV series or a video game and that very world is often associated with the 2018 classic, Red Dead Redemption 2.#

Developed by Rockstar Games, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the sequel to the other critically acclaimed game of the franchise, 2010s Red Dead Redemption. However, rather than being a direct sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2 is in fact a prequel to the 2010 game which tells the story of the infamous Dutch van der Linde gang in which players assume the role of one of its leading members, Arthur Morgan.

Check out the Red Dead Salvation gameplay below!

“Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are outlaws on the run. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive,” reads the synopsis of Red Dead Redemption 2. “As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.”

Now, I will venture into spoiler territory here somewhat, but I will try to keep them to a minimum. So please consider this to be your spoiler warning. Towards the end of Red Dead Redemption 2, in terms of its main story, there is no going back for Arthur Morgan and I even researched at the time to see if anything differently could be done. Sadly, it cannot. Yet, an awesome free mod that is available to download now via Nexusmods changes all that, well, mostly.

The mod in question is called ‘Red Dead Salvation’ and it’s created by an indie developer named RedPed. “This is just before Arthur's last mission. Arthur's journey doesn't stop. With this mod now we can play as Arthur and roam New Austin, Tall Trees, Great Plains and Blackwater. After fleeing Beaver Hollow with the remnants of the gang. The journey to Colter, however, is just the beginning,” the description of the mod reads.

As Red Dead Redemption 2 obviously isn't a Bethesda game, this fantastic mod is only compatible with the PC version of the game. If like me, the concluding moments of Red Dead Redemption 2 still pains you to this very day, you might want to check this mod out.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s also backwards compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S but does not have 60 frames-per-second support.
