Respawn CEO 'would love' to make Titanfall 3

Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella says that he ‘would love’ to make Titanfall 3. Powers that be, make it happen!

Ah Titanfall, oh how much we miss ye. Well, perhaps not so much the original game from 2014. Sure, while the first Titanfall had fun multiplayer, its lack of single player campaign left many fans craving for more. Then in 2016, Respawn Entertainment righted that wrong with the release of Titanfall 2. This sequel not only had a robust multiplayer mode that improved on its predecessor in almost every way, but it also had one of the most compelling, fun and emotionally driven single player campaigns of that year.

Titanfall 2 was well-received by critics and fans alike. On Metacritic, Titanfall 2 garnered very respectable scores averaging between 87 to 89 depending on the platform. Sadly, the critical success of the sequel was not matched by its commercial numbers, at least from the perspective of publisher EA. While exact numbers haven't been released by EA, according to VentureBeat, it is believed that within its first few months of release, Titanfall 2 shipped just four million copies. This was an absolute crime because Titanfall 2 is a fantastic game.

Unfortunately, those lacking sales numbers perhaps weren't helped by the fact that it launched between Battlefield 1 (an EA title) and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, both estimated to have sold 15 million copies in that same time period. So if you’re wondering why we never got Titanfall 3, we can blame its poorly timed release date as a contributing factor.

However, it seems that Mr Zampella might want to see Titanfall 3 as much as we do. As reported by Dexerto, in a paywalled interview with Barron’s via Tae Kim, when asked about the possibility of a third game in the series, Zampella said that while Respawn is “not working on anything currently," he "would love to see it happen."

Zampella went on to say that if a third game in the series did happen, it would have to be at the “right time” and with the "right idea” to do the series justice. So there you have it, there are no plans for EA to release Titanfall 3 anytime soon, but it is at least in the thoughts of the Respawn Entertainment CEO.
