Silent Hill 2 remake officially announced

It’s official! Just in time for Halloween, Konami have confirmed that a Silent Hill 2 remake is on the way. Time to get hyped.

The news was announced as part of the Silent Hill Transmission today (19 October), along with a very exciting trailer. The game is being developed by Bloober Team - the devs behind Layers of Fear and The Medium.

It's confirmed that the game will be a PS5 console exclusive, and will also be coming to PC. Currently, no release window has been given, but rest assured, it's happening.

Rumours had been circling for some time that a remake of the iconic 2001 horror title may be in the works, and lo and behold, it looks like they were true. In May, VGC reported that their own sources had confirmed that the remake was happening, but a number of Silent Hill fans expressed their concerns at the time that Bloober Team were the devs at the helm.

In case you were unaware, Bloober Team have been criticised in the past for their handling of sensitive subject matter, and more specifically, harmful depictions of mental health - both The Medium and Layers of Fear had plot points which players found to be problematic, and there are concerns that the upcoming Layers of Fears may be following a similar path. As such, it’s understandable that fans of Silent Hill 2 might be wary of how the team will handle such a beloved game. 

However, it’s far too early to tell right now if this is actually going to be an issue, and honestly, it’s probably exciting enough to some to see Silent Hill alive and kicking again, a full decade after the series’ last instalment.
