Skyrim meets Valheim in stunning new planet sized RPG from No Man's Sky studio

Skyrim meets Valheim in stunning new planet sized RPG from No Man's Sky studio

Light No Fire is an upcoming planet-sized open-world fantasy RPG from the creators of No Man's Sky.

The Game Awards 2023 has drawn to a close. While it was rather light on, well, actual awards, the Geoff Keighley-fronted showcase did include plenty of ‘world premieres’.

Upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive Rise of the Ronin received a brand new trailer, confirming that the game is due to land in March. Meanwhile, SEGA stopped by to announce revivals of Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi amongst others. It was a pretty big night for Xbox. It was revealed that Arkane Lyon is working on Marvel’s Blade, a new third-person single-player adventure set in the heart of Paris plus we finally know that Hideo Kojima’s Xbox-exclusive game is called OD. If you’re a fan of No Man’s Sky, Hello Games also took to the stage to announce an ambitious new project: Light No Fire.

Take a look at the trailer for Light No Fire below.

Light No Fire has been pitched as a planet-sized open world RPG. I did say it was ambitious. The official synopsis reads, “Light No Fire is a game about adventure, building, survival and exploration together. Set on a fantasy planet the size of Earth, it brings the depth of a role playing game to the freedom of a survival sandbox."

It’s set to be multiplayer so you can explore this colossal space with friends constructing enormous communities, or you can play it on your own and carve out your own path. Devs refer to the Earth-sized scale as something “never attempted before”, adding that the map will be densely filled with a variety of “immersive biomes”.

“Every mountain can be climbed, and below them lie endless vistas, oceans and continents perhaps no others have seen. Who will climb the tallest mountains, who will find the deepest sea?” Hello Games teases. Clearly, this game sounds phenomenal but let’s not forget what happened with No Man’s Sky’s over-promising. The game is fantastic now, but that wasn’t the case upon release. Let’s just hope Hello Games learnt a few lessons.
