PlayStation Plus subscribers are being bombarded with information right now. In case you missed it, PlayStation Plus is set to relaunch in June and will be divided into the three tiers of Essential, Extra, and Premium. Titles joining the Premium tier’s PS1 and PS2 library were recently leaked, whilst 50 games are set to disappear from the PlayStation Now store in the coming month to prepare for the relaunch.
Just yesterday, May’s line up of PlayStation Plus games was announced and it’s underwhelming to say the least. I guess PlayStation are hoping we’re all too focused on the upcoming overhaul to notice. If you’re looking for a pick-me-up after yesterday’s disappointment, it’s now been revealed that some PlayStation Plus subscribers will get free upgrades to the new Premium PlayStation Plus tier.

In a new FAQ, Sony has confirmed that if you’re subscribed to both PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now, you’ll automatically be enrolled onto the new Premium membership tier. The Premium membership will last until the end date of your longest pre-existing subscription.

If you’re solely subscribed to PlayStation Now, you’ll also be enrolled onto the Premium tier. This will simply last for as long as you’ve got left on your PlayStation Now membership. As previously announced, PlayStation Plus subscribers will auto-enroll onto the lowest Essential membership level, again for as long as your existing PlayStation Plus membership has left.
If you do choose to upgrade, and I sense a lot of us will be tempted by the Plus and Premium tiers, you’ll be offered a “pro-rated fee to level up the remaining time on your existing membership to the desired level,” so in other words, you’ll pay a discounted upgrade fee to reflect the number of months you are into your yearly subscription. Phew, information overload but hey, who doesn’t love a free upgrade.
