Actor Michael Imperioli, star of The Sopranos, Goodfellas, and The White Lotus, has forbidden “bigots and homophobes” from watching any of his TV shows following a controversial decision made by the US’ Supreme Court.
As reported by UNILAD, the USA’s highest court ruled on Friday 30 June in favour of a fundamental Christian web designer who refuses to create websites for people having same-sex marriages. Many have condemned the decision, pointing out that it facilitates discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people by businesses.
Imperioli has responded by saying that he himself will now ‘discriminate’ against people he ‘doesn’t agree with’ by forbidding them from watching his TV shows, The Sopranos included. The 57-year-old actor shared a picture of a news headline relating to the decision, which read, “Supreme Court protects web designer who won’t do gay wedding websites.” With a large dose of sarcasm, Imperioli added, “I’ve decided to forbid bigots and homophobes from watching The Sopranos, The White Lotus, Goodfellas or any movie or tv show I’ve been in. Thank you Supreme Court for allowing me to discriminate and exclude those who I don’t agree with and am opposed to. USA ! USA!”

The decision made by the Supreme Court came at the end of Pride Month. There was a 6-3 vote in favour of Lorie Smith, the Colorado based web designer who refused to create the website in question because of religious reasons. Imperioli went on to add that “hate and ignorance is not a legitimate point of view”, saying that “America is becoming dumber by the minute”.
Imperioli has had an incredibly successful career, garnering a Primetime Emmy nomination for his role as Christopher Moltisanti in The Sopranos. In recent years, the actor has appeared in One Night In Miami, The Many Saints of Newark, and The White Lotus.
