Spider-Man India is getting his own series, and we can't wait

We can never get enough Spider-Man, can we? Thankfully, if it’s more Spider-Man you want, it’s more Spider-Man you’re going to get.

Now, before we proceed, I will be going into some spoilers for the recent animated movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. If you’ve not watched that movie yet (and why not?), this article will address a few plot points. That being said, I will do my best to keep them to a minimum.

2018’s animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is fantastic, to say the least. It told the story of Miles Morales and his newly acquired powers. It also introduced some awesome characters such as a grumpy Peter Parker, Gwen Stacey aka Spider-Gwen, Spider-Ham, Spider-Man Noir and more. However, its 2023 sequel, Across the Spider-Verse, is even bigger and better than its predecessor, with greater threats now present.

Across the Spider-Verse also introduced us to further new characters, one of which is Pavitr Prabhakar aka Spider-Man India played by the brilliantly charming Karan Soni. I won’t go into story details here, but if you wanted more of this endlessly charming neighbourhood hero, then you’re in for a treat. As reported by Comicbook.com, the Spider-Man: India comic book series was first released in 2004, however, thanks to the popularity of Across the Spider-Verse, Pavitr Prabhakar is just one Marvel character benefiting from a resurgence.

Marvel has now published a preview of Spider-Man: India #1, which gives us a taste of what this new version of the beloved hero will look like. The comic series is written by Nikesh Shukla, with the artwork created by Abhishek Malsuni, Scott Hanna, and Neeraj Menon. The cover is also created by Adam Kubert and Brad Anderson. The first issue will feature 28 pages and it’s available to buy today. “Just in time for his big role on the silver screen, Spider-Man: India returns for his first miniseries in almost twenty years,” reads the official synopsis.

“Pavitr Prabhakar is back, fresh from 'The End of the Spider-Verse' in his own universe's Mumbai. But things aren't exactly simple,” it continues. “There's a science professor promising results, activating people's 'lizard brain' along with a ruthless businessman who may be more than he seems... Don't miss the break-out Spider-Character of 2023.”

In our review of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, we said: “This is a film that demands multiple rewatches. It deserves to be paused and rewound, every lovingly crafted frame and detail pored over and squealed in delight at. But for now? Go out and watch it on the biggest screen possible. And then go right back into the cinema and watch it again.”

In related video game news, the release date for Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation 5 has been confirmed to arrive this coming October. Happy days!
