But for us gamers, it’s a chance to relive those glory years playing better versions of games that we love and the classic Star Wars Battlefront series is no exception.

Star Wars Battlefront was first released for PC, PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox in 2004, and was followed up by its sequel the following year. Check out the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection trailer below!

Back in the day, I never got to play this series how it was intended due to me not only having the internet but also an Xbox Live subscription. A good friend of mine who is sadly no longer with us always wanted me to play the Star Wars Battlefront series on the original Xbox. I thought that chance had long passed. Sure, my friend may no longer be with us, but re-releasing classics can mean more to some than just pure nostalgia. Also, it’s a great way for new fans to be introduced to a series.

Yet, the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is no mere port because both games included in this bundle are in glorious high definition and improved performance, but it also comes bundled with extra content and 64-player online action. You can also play both games offline if you choose. To the surprise of many, Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection might become the biggest online game of 2024.

“It’s time to relive intense battles from the Star Wars galaxy in the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection. Jump into thrilling firefights across massive battlefields on the ground, in the air, and space as the Empire, Rebellion, Republic, and the Separatist Alliance,” reads the press release. “Choose an array of unique classes, pilot a multitude of vehicles, and play as iconic heroes and villains from multiple eras of the saga in solo, local, and online play.”

Not only will this collection include both story campaigns as well as all online maps and modes, but we’ll also be treated to the bonus ‘Jabba’s Palace’ map for Star Wars Battlefront (2004). What’s more, Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) will include the bonus Bespin (Cloud City), Rhen Var (Harbor), Rhen Var (Citadel) and Yavin 4 (arena) maps as well as playable heroes, Asajj Ventress and Kit Fisto.

The campaign for the first game will take us from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace to Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. The second campaign will tell the story of the rise of Darth Vader’s elite 501st Legion of Stormtroopers.

As for the multiplayer action, in the Galactic Conquest, the 64-player battles will be pure bedlam whether you’re fighting on the ground in Naboo or even the Death Star, driving land vehicles such as an AT-ST or taking to the skies in a TIE Fighter of X-Wing, there’s surely going to be plenty of fun to be had for all gamers across generations, and fans are Reddit can’t wait to play these classic games once more.

“Full online and trophy support!! Where did this come from?” exclaimed Reddior TheFerah with dakapn replying “A surprise to be sure but a welcomed one.”

“For those of you who never managed to plug their ethernet cable into a PS2 slim to play this online or are too young to know what the hell I just said, now hear this; multiplayer of Star Wars Battlefront II was so much fun,” said a gleeful Snow_source.

The Reddit thread is full of nothing but excited gamers waiting to play Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, and we’re with them. It will also be interesting to see those concurrent player numbers on Steam when this bundle of joy is released next month.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection will be released on 14 March 2024 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
