Star Wars Battlefront Collection is an absolute mess, fans are heartbroken

Gamers are not happy with Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection

When the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection was released this week, it should have been a joyous occasion for fans, those who were returning and those new. Sadly, there was no such joy for fans with reports of bugs and server issues plaguing the beloved classics.

The original two Star Wars Battlefront games were released in 2004 and 2005 respectively. 20 years later, Ayspr announced the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection which featured both of the original games with improved visuals, performance, bonus content and more. Unfortunately, this classic collection has so far brought nothing but frustration for those who have purchased the game.

Following its launch, frustrated gamers were making their voices heard on social media stating that at least on PC, around 10,000 fans tried to play Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection at launch for some epic 64-player action. However, reportedly, the game only had three servers at launch, accommodating 200 players. Which of course meant that thousands of players couldn't play the game that they had paid for, and that’s not even including the PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch versions of the game.

On top of that, for those who managed to get into a game were frustrated with hitbox detection issues, matches ending abruptly and there was not even an option to invert the controls which would alienate lots of players. With that in mind, fans have pleaded with others once more to stop pre-ordering games.

“Beating a dead horse but stop pre-ordering games. The Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection is a mess and Aspyr should be absolutely ashamed,” said Reddit user DeadByDawn93. “The game is a broken disaster. Half of the time you can't connect to a game, and when you do, all of the servers are high ping and it is absolutely unplayable with players skipping and lagging everywhere and hit detection being non-existent.”

The Reddit user went on to mention that the download size was nearly 60GB, which is quite baffling for old games such as these. Thankfully, a patch has gone live today that has at least reduced the file size down to around 30GB.

“I'd also say - don't trust publishers on remakes/relaunches much, as most of them are relaunched purely for greedy reasons,” exclaimed Aksoq. “Pre-orders will continue to be popular as long as publishers and retailers continue to offer incentives for pre-ordering,” replied AbsoluteScenes7, echoing much of the sentiment on the thread. In response to the launch woes of the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, Aspyr has issued a statement addressing unforeseen issues and apologised to fans.

“We’d like to thank the Battlefront community for their overwhelming support and feedback for the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection release. At launch, we experienced critical errors with our network infrastructure. The result was incredibly high ping, matchmaking errors, crashes, and servers not appearing in the browser,” explained Aspyr.

“Since launch, we’ve been working to address these issues and increase network stability, and we will continue our efforts until our network infrastructure is stabilised to prevent further outages. Please continue to report bugs, errors, or unexpected behaviours to our support team via our Request Form The Aspyr Team.”

There was no mention of what bugs will be fixed, whether an inverted option will be added to the game or how the server issues would be corrected. We can only hope that Apyr is working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that everyone can play these beloved classic games online, as intended because Star Wars Battlefront deserves better.
