The Star Wars Jedi: Survivor day one patch is bigger than most full games. Yikes!
The sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order takes place five years after the events of the first game, and features a more grizzled and wise Cal Kestis with the Galactic Empire still hot on his heels - hellbent on the extermination of the Jedi once and for all. The sequel improves on its predecessor in almost every way, not only with better visuals and performance but the gameplay has been enhanced with introductions such as a dual-wield stance that was not present in Fallen Order. In a lot of ways, it seems that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a prime example of how to evolve a series with its sequel.

However, all those improvements come at the expense of your hard drive storage. For example, it was reported earlier this month that even physical copies of the game will require a massive download, certainly too much for a single disc to contain. The exact numbers for consoles were not mentioned at the time, but now we know.

In a post shared by Reddit user SuperSlimeyxx, the physical copy on PlayStation 5 requires a day-one 100GB patch. This will be in addition to the 62GB install.
“They should have shipped it on two discs. At least then you would be buying the entire game and not 40% of it,” suggested Redditor 47-Alpha-Tango. “They completely f***ed physical owners over. They pulled a Hogwarts Legacy, where the game requires every update to remain playable, otherwise, it’ll lock you out until you update,” exclaimed KayJune001.
“They could’ve included the entire game on-disc by releasing it with 2 discs, as large games tend to do. Instead, they made the physical copy entirely useless to those without decent internet. Seriously p****s me off. Bad for game preservation, unplayable for millions without good internet, bad all around.”

Recently, publisher Electronic Arts warned that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will require ‘weeks’ of bug fixing, so get ready to reserve even more storage space in the near future. Happy days. It does seem like a kick in the teeth for those that purchased a physical copy of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in the hope of not being a victim of egregious download/update sizes. Sadly, no one is truly safe in the era of modern gaming.
