Starfield free download available, but not for everyone

Bethesda’s highly-anticipated Xbox exclusive, Starfield, will be free as part of an upcoming CPU bundle.

Starfield is one of the biggest Xbox exclusive releases in recent memory, generating an astounding amount of hype with gamers of all age groups. Players are so excited for its release, that many are booking the week off work, and some are buying Xbox Series X consoles for the very first time just to get their hands on the game.

For PC players though, there’s a chance you could get a copy of Starfield as a free download, provided you’re in the market for a shiny, new CPU.

It was recently discovered on Newegg by videocardz that AMD are planning to bundle copies of Starfield with new Ryzen CPUs. The CPUs in question are of the Ryzen 7000 series, which can get pretty costly the more advanced they get.

AMD have featured similar bundles in the past, most notably recent AAA releases like the Resident Evil 4 remake, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Bethesda and AMD recently announced a partnership, suggesting Starfield will definitely be bundled with future CPUs.

While they’re certainly not cheap, their prices do vary so there’s sure to be an option for everyone provided they’re willing to spend a fair amount of cash. That being said, Starfield will be retailing at the usual price of AAA games, and if you’re not a PC player who uses Xbox Game Pass PC which includes the title as part of the subscription, you’d need to buy the game anyway.

It’s also worth noting that the Xbox versions of Starfield will be locked at 30 fps, with Bethesda recently confirming PC players will be able to push the game further to 60 FPS with 4K visuals, so getting a better CPU would definitely be worth it if you’re wanting to experience the game at its very best performance and graphical settings.

Starfield will launch exclusively for Xbox consoles and PC in September, a decision that has caused significant controversy since the game was almost planned to be a PS5 exclusive prior to Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda. Recently, some PlayStation fans attempted to bring the game back over to Sony’s console, with a petition that unsurprisingly went nowhere.
