Starfield RPG rival coming to PlayStation 5 on the same day

Starfield RPG rival coming to PlayStation 5 on the same day

Who needs Starfield when you have this?

As I'm sure you've heard by now, Starfield isn't coming to PlayStation 5 anytime soon. Or ever.

Bethesda's open-world RPG is one of the most-anticipated titles of the decade, but PlayStation 5 users are going to have to watch from the sidelines. Since Microsoft went and scooped up Bethesda, Starfield will be exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Is this a bit of a shame? Sure. But it is what it is, and no amount of petitions will change it. Besides, PlayStation owners have a crap-ton of exclusives. The Last Of Us, Marvel's Spider-Man, God Of War... the list goes on. Everybody gets something. And the good news? PS5 owners looking to scratch that RPG itch on September 6 can do so with a massive new RPG... it's just not Starfield.

Take a look at Starfield in action below!

If you've been paying attention, you'll know that Baldur's Gate 3 is headed to PS5 on September 6, the same day Starfield drops. While not exactly the same kind of game, Baldur's Gate 3 is in many ways even more ambitious - a huge, stunningly detailed and enormously ambitious RPG that takes the freedom of Dungeons & Dragons and puts it into a video game.

In Baldur's Gate 3 you can pretty much be anyone and do anything, and it's set to be properly massive. The cinematics aline clock in at around 170 hours, and there are over 17,000 different endings to see. This is a game that rewards customisation, player choice, and creative thinking every step of the way.

Baldur's Gate 3 has also been in Steam Early Access for the past year or so, meaning the developers have had a rare chance to work alongside players and make sure the final release is as polished and definitive an experience as it can possibly be. And if you're at all familiar with Larian's previous work, you'll know this is a studio that doesn't do things by halves.

Again, I must stress that this really isn't anything like Starfield in any way, beyond the fact they're both RPGs. Starfield has more of a focus on action-based combat, for one thing, where Baldur's Gate 3's encounters are a turn based strategy affair. But both games look genuinely incredible, and promise to completely consume months of our lives. So really, no matter what console you're on or what game you choose, RPG fans are winning in 2023.
