Steam's biggest horror game is finally coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Popular Steam horror game Phasmophobia is finally coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

One of Steam’s most popular horror games will soon land on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, after a hugely popular Early Access period on the PC platform.

It’s been a strong year for horror lovers so far. The long-awaited Dead Space remake kicked off the year in style - and by ‘style’, that’s if you love being scared s**tless aboard a space prison - followed by the very popular Resident Evil 4. There’s plenty more on the way. We now know that Alan Wake 2 is set to launch on 17 October. Inspired by True Detective, director Sam Lake said the game is accessible to new players to the franchise - and judging by the gameplay, it looks like The Last of Us meets Resident Evil. In addition to that, popular Steam horror Phasmophobia is also now confirmed to make the jump to consoles.

Take a look at the trailer for Phasmophobia below.

If this is the first you’re hearing of Phasmophobia, it’s essentially a 4-player co-op horror. As reported by GameRant, the title is in Early Access on PC after launching in 2020, but will soon be playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and even on the PS VR2. Described as a psychological horror, Phasmophobia centres around ghost hunting. You and the rest of your team will need to use various pieces of paranormal detecting equipment to hunt down some rather spine-tingling ghosts.

At the moment, there are 10 locations to explore featuring 20 varieties of ghosts, but that could increase I’d imagine after the game leaves Early Access. At the time of writing, the game has a review score of 96% on Steam. Much of the praise for the game was aimed towards its atmosphere and immersion. One user wrote, “Good game to play. Gives me the spooks and my mates a good laugh,” while another said, “I can shut the door on my friends and watch them die by the hands of the ghost.” Not sure I’d like to play with the latter individual.

We don’t have an exact launch date but it’ll be during August 2023 so we don’t have long to wait. The game remains in Early Access despite the upcoming console launch.
