People Urged To "Manage Expectations" Ahead Of Summer Game Fest This Week

Despite E3 being cancelled this year, both in-person and online, it’s still very much video game announcements season. Things kicked off last Thursday with PlayStation’s State of Play, and we’ve still got loads to come with the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on Sunday (12 June), as well as Summer Game Fest on Thursday (9 June). 

Predictably, gamers have been getting far too excited, and have been predicting (aka, hoping and praying for) the reveals of some pretty massive titles. However, speaking on Twitter Spaces over the weekend (and as transcribed and reported by VGC), presenter Geoff Keighley has warned people not to get their hopes up too much. 

Keighley has confirmed that the upcoming survival horror title, The Callisto Protocol, will be making an appearance during the event - take a look at the trailer below.

“This is a really exciting weekend for me because I get to finally see things we’ve been talking about to people for months,” Keighley said, speaking about the event. “We’ve obviously announced a bunch of things since I last talked to you guys in terms of world premieres and announcements that will be at the show.

“What I would say is that a lot of the games we’re going to show you are going to be [already] announced […], games are going to show new content to you, like some of the ones I’ve mentioned,” he continued. “We’ve got a couple of new game announcements in the show and hopefully some surprises if everything holds. But it definitely is a show that’s primarily focused on stuff that is announced.

“So we’re doing some good stuff for you, but definitely manage your expectations in terms of the megaton shocks that you’re expecting. This is not The Game Awards,” he cautioned. “We’ve got lots of good stuff to show you but buyer beware of some of the crazy rumours I’m seeing out there in terms of things people expect to get announced.”

Keighley didn’t address any of the rumours specifically, of course, but there’s a whole load he could have been referring to, from the whispers of a new multiplayer Crash Bandicoot game, to a remake of Red Dead Redemption. There’s no doubt that there’s still going to be a whole load of exciting stuff to see, though - we’ll have you covered on all the best stuff right here.
