The Boys’ latest spinoff series Gen V has earned an ultra-rare score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics praising its imaginative take on the superhero genre.
It's always a risky move to create spinoffs of much-loved TV shows but luckily, The Boys has pulled it off with Gen V. Heading to Prime Video 29 September, the TV series is described as “part college show, part Hunger Games”, and follows a group of young superheroes as they are put through various tests to prove they are good enough to be Vought’s next big thing. Set in the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, the college students must juggle being typical students with having powers that can easily get them into trouble. With the trailer promising a lot of blood and gore, it is set to be an exciting addition to The Boys original series.

Critics are praising the show with Ed Power at The Telegraph claiming it “puts Marvel to shame... A spinoff of Amazon's superhero spoof The Boys, Gen V will introduce a new generation to razor-sharp satire – if they can handle the gore”.

Alison Herman at Variety says “Gen V” retains the edge, cynicism and (aptly) adolescent humor that make its parent show tick”. Meanwhile, Ali Shutlet at NME commented, “It’s comfortable sitting in the shadow of The Boys for the time being and while the gory humour might feel familiar, this smart, sleek spin-off is never less than exciting.”
With the show currently sitting at a 100 per cent score on the ratings website Rotten Tomatoes, there is no doubt you will not want to miss it. The upcoming eight episodes will be “just about as gruesomely subversive as its origin series” according to the critic’s consensus. “Gen V builds on The Boys in occasionally chaotic but overall inspired fashion.”
Gen V debuts on Prime Video on Friday 29 September around the world.
