The Boys season 4 has been put on hold indefinitely

The Boys season 4 has been put on hold indefinitely

The Boys' showrunner Eric Kripke has explained the reasoning behind the holdup on Twitter.

It’s been confirmed that the fourth season of The Boys has been put on hold, despite its filming being completed earlier this year.

There’s a lot to be excited about in the next season of The Boys. Although we’re yet to see a trailer, it’s been teased that the upcoming batch of episodes will include “the craziest sh*t we can legally put on your tubes”. We can only assume that this might be related to a scene which associate producer and VFX supervisor Stephan Fleet hinted at previously, when he said: “I think I just saw the most disgusting thing I have seen working in this business thus far.”

The Boys’ fourth season wrapped filming in April, but showrunner Eric Kripke has now confirmed that its release is being held for as long as the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike continues. The strike began in May this year as a result of a dispute between the WGA and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). While screenwriters are striking for a number of reasons, one of the main ones is to secure fair pay.

“When season four drops depends on how long the WGA Strike goes. No answer yet. Tell the studios to make a fair deal!” Kripke wrote on Twitter.

Responding to one fan who asked why the upcoming season is being put on hold despite the filming being completed, Kripke tweeted: “There's a good amount of dialogue we write in post that the actors come back to record (called ADR), to help bridge story gaps or clarify a plot point. We'll also edit dialogue together in different ways to 'rewrite' it. Writing at every stage of the process.”

Right now, it’s not clear how long the writers’ strike will go on for.
