'The Boys' Showrunner Wants To Work With Hideo Kojima On A Game Adaptation

'The Boys' Showrunner Wants To Work With Hideo Kojima On A Game Adaptation

Eric Kripke has directly asked Kojima if he wants to team up to make a video game adaptation of The Boys.

Genius game dev Hideo Kojima has brought us plenty of masterpieces over the years, from the Metal Gear series, to Snatcher and Death Stranding.

While the world has been not-so-patiently waiting to find out what he’s going to be working on next, a couple of days ago, we got the bittersweet news that he’d been planning to make a dark superhero game, but had scrapped the idea since he considered it to be too similar to the excellent Amazon Prime series, The Boys.

Take a look at the trailer for season three of The Boys right here.

The Boys, which I quit after three episodes of season one. I thought I'd watch the rest of the show,” he tweeted last week. “Actually, I watched a few episodes that were delivered at the time when I was about to start a project that I had been warming up for a long time and put it on hold because the concept was similar (different settings and tricks). A buddy (male/female) thing with a special detective squad facing off against legendary heroes behind the scenes. I was thinking of Mads [Mikkelsen] as the lead.

“Today, when superheroes continue to be mass-produced in the entertainment industry, this drama was to be a radical hard-boiled action film, neither hero nor villain, with an astonishingly black joke setup and a worldview that is the opposite of what we are used to,” he continued. “Well, what I had planned stayed in my mind only, so I didn't incur any cost for [labour], material, research, or anything like that.”

Not all hope is lost, though. In fact, quite the opposite. As reported by PC Gamer, the showrunner of The Boys, Eric Kripke, replied to Kojima, directly asked the man himself to make it a reality: “Please come make a #TheBoys game,” he tweeted. “We can team up and conquer! Huge fan, btw.” This was then followed up by Homelander actor Antony Starr, who simply wrote: “Second that notion.”

Although Kojima himself hasn’t replied to either of these tweets, he did retweet them both, which could surely mean something, right? We’ll just have to watch this space, but there’s no doubt that fans would absolutely love to see this happen.
