'The Boys' Starlight Actor Feels "Dehumanised" And "Paralysed" By Fans

Starlight actress Erin Moriarty has opened up about the misogyny directed towards her by some The Boys fans.

Fans will be pleased to know that filming on season four of The Boys is now underway. Already, Karl Urban has offered us a glimpse at Butcher and Homelander back in action - plus we know that The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to join the cast. A fan-favourite may also be returning but amidst all of this, one cast member has revealed how fans have left them feeling “dehumanised” and “paralysed.”

Looking for a new show to watch? Star Wars: Andor debuts in just a few short weeks on 21 September. Take a look at the trailer below.

On Tuesday night, actress Erin Moriarty, who portrays Annie January / Starlight, reposted an article titled ‘#IStandWithStarlight?: The Betrayal of Erin Moriarty by The Boys Fans.’ As reported by Variety, the article explores the misogynistic hate aimed at both Starlight and Moriarty.

The article highlighted that Starlight is “treated like a celebrity canvas for others to project onto rather than a human being with her own thoughts and feelings,” before adding that actress Moriarty was being treated in the same manner.

“I do feel paralysed. I’ve put blood, sweat and tears into this role (over & over & over again), I’ve grown UP in this character’s shoes (*emphasis on grown up - we change & evolve mentally AND physically),” Moriarty said, responding to the article. “So with that I say: a) thank you to @butcherscanary [the author] b) this does break my heart — I’ve opened up a vein for this role and the misogynistic trolling is exactly what this role (Annie) would speak out against and c) everyone’s going through their own battle(s); let’s not add to that. I will never intentionally (and ESPECIALLY) publicly, add to yours.”

The actress added, “This has only strengthened my empathy muscle and to anyone who comes at me: I see you, I don’t hate you, I only empathise and forgive.” Costars lent their support including Antony Starr who wrote, “Your work on the show is and always has been stellar and you are beautiful inside and out. Keep shining,” whilst Jack Quaid said, “You’re such an incredible, talented force of nature and I consider myself incredibly lucky to know you. Keep shining bright. Leave the trolls to us. We got your back.”
