The Division 2 new-gen update ruled out, Ubisoft doesn't want to leave players behind

If you’re a fan of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and were hoping for a Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5 version of the game, we’ve got sad news… A new-gen version of the game has been officially ruled out by the developers themselves…

The game’s creative director, Yannick Banchereau spoke in an interview with MP1ST about the future of the action-RPG, which will be seeing another year of support from Ubisoft.

When asked about the possibility of new-gen versions of the game being released, Banchereau said: “That’s unlikely because if we really wanted to take full advantage of those ... taking full advantage of those would mean that the game would no longer be available on the old generations.”

The creative director went on to say: “We still have a lot of players that play on all generations and we are not ready to leave them behind and ask them to upgrade.

"Right now we are trying to make sure every time we add something, it still runs smoothly on the old gen as well.”

While it’s disappointing that The Division 2 won’t be able to take full advantage of the new generation’s powerful consoles, it’s nice to see the team is taking all types of players into consideration when designing and implementing new content.

That isn’t to say The Division 2 players on the latest systems don’t get a few benefits from their high-performance consoles. Players on the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 can experience the game with 4K visuals, as well as run at a smooth 60 FPS, which is better than nothing.

Ubisoft doesn’t seem to have any plans for a Division 3, which is made more credible by their continued support for current instalment in the series but fans should keep an eye on the upcoming The Division: Resurgence, which is set for release sometime this year.
