Live-action adaptations of all our favourite video games seem to be a growing trend in recent years. Now not to miss out, The Elder Scrolls Online director thinks the franchise receiving the same adaptation treatment would be a “cool idea”.
Just a few days after a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation was announced, The Elder Scrolls Online creative director Rich Lambert has turned his attention to a possible TV or movie adaptation of the beloved IP. First released in 2014, ESO is a MMORPG set in the Elder Scrolls universe so adapting it into live-action would be quite a feat. However, with the franchise being as loved as it is, it could be interesting to see.

It seems as though Lambert agrees. In a recent interview with Dexerto, the creative director discussed the potential of ESO coming to the screen in the future. Although nothing has been confirmed at the time of writing this, Lambert assures readers that he and Bethesda would jump at the chance of either a live-action or animated adaptation.

“I think it would be cool if we could do it. I just don’t know how we would,” he said at PAX Australia. “I’m a big fantasy buff and I think Elder Scrolls has such a distinct style. Obviously, you look at things like elves, something that’s a very classic fantasy trope. However, I think within Elder Scrolls, you’ve really been able to cement yourselves having these conventional elements, but being very distinct.”
Spanning over single-player titles such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the almost-ten-year-old MMORPG, Elder Scrolls has enough content and word-building to rival Tolkien but it has yet to receive the live-action treatment. After working on the franchise for almost 20 years, Lambert thinks it is time and says that fans agree.
“That’s something the community has actually been asking for for a long time. They really want an Elder Scrolls movie, they love our CGI trailers when we do them,” he continued. “Here’s hoping it happens in the future because there are a lot of great stories in the Elder Scrolls world that are still yet to be told.”
It remains to be seen if we will see The Elder Scrolls Online coming to our screens but if adapted well, it could bring an even bigger fanbase to the epic fantasy franchise.
