The Getaway is the only PlayStation 2 game that needs a remaster, fans say

The Getaway needs a remaster, apparently

It starts with a simple question on Reddit - "If I could choose any PlayStation 2 game to be made in to a remake/remaster I would choose this one. What would you choose?"

The original poster pointed to The Getaway, a GTA-esque game that took place in London. At the time, it did a great job portraying London in digital form and was praised for telling a British story at a time when many larger crime capers were set in America.

The PS2 was a champion console with a neat undefeated games line-up

Other users, before commenting their own games, wholeheartedly agreed with The Getaway. One user, u/DarkTaker1990 said "The graphics in that game were absolutely amazing for 2002. Both this game and the PlayStation 2 blew me away back then."

The question sparked a lot of PS2 players to jump in and nominate a they believed deserved a remake or remaster. There are plenty of options: Black, Burnout 3: Takedown, Metal Gear Solid, DRIV3R, Freedom Fighters, Xenosaga and many more.

One user pitched two titles they'd like "The Godfather, that game was awesome back in the day. My absolute favourite though, would be Final Fantasy X to be remade." Another suggestion from u/Damien_Sin was "SSX Tricky. A classic game that had a killer soundtrack and great characters", and one of the most popular answers was "The Simpsons Hit and Run". There's still a lot of love for that game, it pretty much defined the teen years of many players.

For me, I'd want ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. I'd agree that we've already had some rereleases of these, but to have them both brought up to new-gen specs would be amazing. The atmosphere of both games would really lean into ray tracing and ambient occlusion, as well as better character models and textures such as fur and flesh.
