The Godfather fans start petition to remake 2006 video game

Fans of The Godfather are demanding a remake of the 2006 game, with a petition nearing a thousand signatures.

Fans of The Godfather are demanding a remake of the 2006 game, with a petition nearing a thousand signatures.

Released in 2006, The Godfather was developed by EA for the original Xbox, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii. It was a third-person open-world game that followed the events of the 1972 film, but from the perspective of a new character. The game saw the player completing a series of missions of the Corleone family, many of which provide context to off-screen events in the films.

It received decent reviews from critics and fans, but never saw a re-release on modern consoles, which is something fans are hoping to change with a new petition.

The petition, started by Dominick Martinez, is calling for a full remake of the game for modern and next-gen consoles. In the description, Martinez says: “This movie tie in was amazing. Everyone loves the Mob Movie genre. The game was amazing. The movie was amazing. Now imagine if we remastered it for today’s systems? Better graphics. An enhanced story. More engagement. Better dialogue, and much more. A complete masterpiece.”

Martinez goes on to say: “An extremely underrated game that everyone loves. Even the second game was amazing … The fans want it. We’ve been calling for it for years and now is the perfect time to do. A Definitive or Remastered edition. Just as Hangar 13 did with Mafia and look how amazingly that turned out. Paramount. Francis. Viscera. WHOEVER. We need it.”

As cool as it would be to see a new Godfather game get released, it’s unlikely it’ll come to fruition. Film tie-in games are very rarely brought back, mainly due to difficulties with licensing. That being said it’s not necessarily impossible, but it’ll take a bit of work to see it happen.

Strangely enough this isn’t the only petition that’s demanding a revival of a long-forgotten game, as Rockstar Games fans are currently campaigning for the Xbox and PS2 beat-em-up title, The Warriors, to be re-released on modern platforms.
