The Witcher 3 new-gen gameplay is here, and it’s beautiful

CD Projekt Red has finally revealed gameplay footage from The Witcher 3's new-gen patch, and it looks stunning.

The day has finally come. At long last, after months of waiting, we’ve been given our first look at the new-gen Witcher 3 update, and it’s just as gorgeous as we could have hoped.

First announced in 2021, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S update has been a long time coming. Obviously, the main stuff comes in the form of visual and performance upgrades - including a boosted frame rate and resolution, as well as ray tracing and mods, but that's not all that's on offer.

Enough from me, bask in the glory of new-gen Witcher 3 below.

Things are still on schedule for the update to land on 14 December, so there’s just three weeks to go. Keep in mind that it’ll be totally free for anyone who already owns the game, too - so if you’re a Witcher veteran, or you manage to grab it cheap sometime before then, you’re good to go. Even though it seems that everyone is busy right now playing God of War Ragnarök, I’m sure that we can all still squeeze in another playthrough of The Witcher 3, right? Right.

While gamers are all very excited about this news, fans of The Witcher Netflix series definitely aren’t thriving at the minute. Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, it was recently announced that Liam Hemsworth will be taking over the starring role of Geralt from season four onwards, and people aren’t happy. At the time of writing, over 200,000 people have signed a petition to keep Henry Cavill in the show and fire the writers instead, which speaks for itself.

Interestingly, The Witcher 3’s new-gen update also promises to include new content based on the Netflix series like a new outfit for Dandelion and new Nilfgaardian armour. Adding Henry Cavill’s face as an optional look for Geralt could be bittersweet, but it’d almost certainly get a better reaction than if it was Liam Hemsworth instead.
