The Witcher 3 next-gen upgrade coming December 14th, includes mod support

It's happening!

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's long-awaited PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S version finally has a release date, and it's coming next month.

As confirmed by CD Projekt RED, the updated version of the beloved RPG will be available as a free update to everyone who already owns the game on December 14th.

CD Projekt RED will have more details to share about the extent of the update during a special livestream next week, which suggests to me this is a fairly substantial upgrade that goes beyond an enhanced framerate and bumped up resolutions.

Confirmed features include'"dozens" of visual, performance, technical improvements, mod support, ray-tracing, and new content inspired by the Netflix show. Though probably Liam Hemsworth.

The Witcher 3's new-gen upgrade was first confirmed back in 2021, and was scheduled to arrive early in 2022. The project was ultimately delayed as CDPR was "evaluating the scope of work to be done", choosing to push the game back a few months.

While CDPR has insisted the game will launch before the end of 2022, fans were getting a little twitchy as we drifted in November. Fortunately, we now know for sure that we'll be replaying the game in just a few weeks! Is it too late to reconsider my Game Of The Year?

It's an exciting time to be a Witcher fan (assuming you're into the games and not the Netflix show, that is). In addition to this new version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, fans can also look forward to a remake of the original game in Unreal Engine 5, and a handful of more spinoffs and sequels besides.
