The Witcher: Jaskier actor breaks silence on Henry Cavill exit

Jaskier actor Joey Batey has spoken about Henry Cavill's departure from The Witcher for the first time.

You thought we were finished talking about Henry Cavill’s departure from The Witcher? You were wrong, my friend. In case you missed it, Cavill has officially announced that season three will be his final outing as Geralt of Rivea. Liam Hemsworth will then take over the role in season four. Unsurprisingly, it’s a move that hasn’t gone down well with fans.

Cavill hasn’t exactly explained his reasoning for leaving but it’s no secret that he’s unhappy with the direction the show is heading in. Writers have reportedly mocked Andrzej Sapkowski’s source novels as the show’s storylines drift in a new direction - much to the dismay of Cavill. In fact, over 200,000 people have signed a petition asking Netflix to fire the show’s writers and bring Cavill back. The truth is, it’s probably not going to happen but one actor from The Witcher has now opened up about the whole debacle.

Take a look at The Witcher 3’s upcoming new-gen update below.

Jaskier actor Joey Batey recently sat down with Culture Crave (Via Rednian Intelligence) and broke his silence on the casting drama for the first time. “I spoke to both of them, actually. I spoke to Henry last week, we text a fair bit,” Batey said. “He’s a very good friend. I sent him a message just saying how much everyone in the show would miss him, myself more so than most because Henry and I are very good pals and we’ve spent the past four years carving out these stories.”

“I reached out to [Liam] and said ‘Welcome’. The strength in him and the bravery to come and join a show like this, halfway through, is unbelievable and I hope that everyone knows the commitment that he’s already showing to these incredibly big boots he has to fill,” Batey added. “He’s diving headfirst into this and taking it so seriously with his research and training and things like that. We’ll miss Henry an awful lot, but Liam’s gonna bring something new and fresh and different to it.”

It’s nice to hear a positive spin on things for a change. The Witcher’s showrunner also touched on the ‘new energy’ Liam brings. We’ve got a whole season of Cavill to enjoy before then though, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
