The Witcher Remake announced, rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5

The Witcher Remake announced, rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5

It's happening!

CD Projekt has officially announced a remake of The Witcher, rebuilt from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5.

Developed by CD Projekt RED, the original Witcher game released for PC way back in 2009. While this first game obviously has its fans, most of you will be aware that The Witcher video games didn't really take off until The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Needless to say, The Witcher does not feel anything like Wild Hunt. It's a more than a little rough around the edges, and in desperate need of a remake.

Luckily, that's exactly what's happening! CD Projekt confirmed the news over on the official Witcher website.

"We are thrilled to announce that The Witcher Remake is being worked on! That's right, the game that started it all is being rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5," a statement on the official website reads.

"The game is currently in the early stages of development at the Polish studio Fool’s Theory, where veteran Witcher series staff are involved. We, as CD PROJEKT RED, are providing full creative supervision."

The Witcher Remake has actually been staring us in the face for a while now. It was one of the many games announced by CD Projekt earlier this year, although at the time it went by the codename Canis Majoris.

It'll be a while until we hear more about this one, as CDPR wants us to know they're really working on getting the details right. However, a chance to go back and play through an enhanced version of The Witcher is something I've wanted for a long time. Here's hoping a remake of The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings can follow at some point, too!
