Everybody’s favourite tomb raiding legend is set to get another adaptation and this time it’s with Netflix’s Tomb Raider: Legend of Lara Croft which has Hayley Atwell at the helm.
Since she was first introduced in 1996, Lara Croft has gone onto become one of the most recognised figures in video game history. With 19 video games, three movies and a selection of novels and comics, she is as popular now as she was over 20 years ago. Not one to miss out on the action, Netflix are now getting involved with the animated series Tomb Raider: Legend of Lara Croft set to air in 2024.

Teaming up with Crystal Dynamics and Powerhouse Animation, the animated series will follow the much-loved archeologist on her adventures but it is unknown yet what adventures they will be. Our first look at Lara Croft, voiced by English actress Hayley Atwell, shows a modern looking take which is more reminiscent of the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot than the polygon Lara we know and love. The trailer, released yesterday, shows the bow-wielding icon as she explores tombs, rises from fire and aiming an arrow at what is probably an unsuspecting enemy. Paired with the sounds of heavy breathing, the series looks to be a lot grittier than we first expected.

As mentioned, this iteration of Croft will be played by Hayley Atwell who is most known for her role as Peggy Carter in the Marvel universe. Netflix has also revealed that Allen Maldonado and Earl Baylon will be joining the cast but it’s not yet confirmed who they will be playing.
This announcement also follows the news that writer and actor Phoebe Waller-Bridge will also be taking on Lara Croft with plans for an Amazon television series. First revealed in January, Waller-Bridge claimed that she was inspired to write the script after playing the Tomb Raider games during the COVID-19 pandemic. With this project still in its early stages, we hope to receive more news soon.
