As far as film tie-in games go, Toy Story 2 for the PS1 was an absolute gem so it’s no wonder fans have remade the game in Unreal Engine 5.

As far as film tie-in games go, Toy Story 2 for the PS1 was an absolute gem so it’s no wonder fans have remade the game in Unreal Engine 5.

Originally released for the PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64 and PC, Toy Story 2 follows a similar story to the animated Pixar film but from the perspective of Buzz Lightyear.

While we're on the topic of Unreal Engine 5, check out this stunning story trailer for Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra below

The player must navigate an assortment of levels as Buzz in order to rescue Woody, who I’m sure we all know has been captured by a toy collector.

It’s fondly remembered for its gameplay and again, for a tie-in film game there’s an impressive amount of quality present.

But as any gameplay video would tell you it’s now a tad bit out of date, which is where the latest and greatest Unreal Engine 5 tools come in.

YouTuber Level reDesign reportedly spent over 200 hours remaking the game in Unreal Engine and for lack of a better word it looks spectacular.

The project is still a work in progress at the time of writing so there are a few issues and glitches that need fine-tuning/ironing out, but for the most part it’s an impressive build especially with all the work that’s gone into it.

Fans of the game who played it back in the day were thrilled to see it brought back to life, and shared their admiration for the project in the comment section.

“This is my childhood. So excited for this!!”

“Sweet! Looking forward to seeing it progress!”

“This is awesome! I love the original game. I wish the camera wasn't so difficult to work with though. Looks like it's a lot easier to use in your version!”

Unfortunately you can’t play it for yourself just yet, but as work on the project continues it’s believed a demo, and eventually a full release, will be launched at a later date
