Dark Souls anime coming to Netflix, insider claims

Netflix will apparently soon be home to yet another exciting video game adaptation, as insiders claim that a Dark Souls anime series will be launching on the streaming service in the future.

Already, Netflix is home to a number of shows based on popular video game series, including Tekken: Bloodline, Castlevania, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Even more shows are currently in the works, too, such as the Horizon Zero Dawn adaptation and the live-action Assassin’s Creed series.

Anyway, Giant Freakin Robot reports that, according to its sources, Netflix is now developing a Dark Souls anime series. It’s claimed that the series is likely to commence with the events of the first game, which isn’t really surprising. So, if it’s to be believed, it sounds like we’ll be stepping back into the kingdom of Lordran.

Although the existence of the anime series is yet to be confirmed by Netflix, FromSoftware or Bandai Namco, it’d be a really exciting game to see adapted. After all, Dark Souls is a notoriously difficult title - there’s no doubt that some have been put off from playing it in full and discovering all of its fascinating lore simply due to how tricky it is. As such, presenting it in a format that won’t force players to learn enemy attack patterns and persevere through hundreds of ‘you died’ screens could prove to be a massive hit.

Speaking of video game adaptations, it’s been quite a year for them. Since January, we’ve seen the successful releases of The Last of Us’ first TV season and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and next month, the Gran Turismo film will be racing onto screens.
