Now that the Henry Cavill Man of Steel era is officially over and the new DCU led by James Gunn and Peter Safran is underway, the casting process has already begun on Superman: Legacy.
Superman: Legacy will be the official dawn of Gunn and Safran’s DCU, and with it comes a new version of young Clark Kent. We know that David Corenswet (We Own This City, Pearl) is to play the new Superman. Moreover, Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards, Patriots Day) will play Lois Lane.
The Marvels is the MCU's latest cinematic effort.
However, up until now, another leading casting role had been left open and that’s for Superman’s number one villain, none other than DC legend, Lex Luthor. As reported by Deadline, it's been revealed that Lex Luthor will be played by Nicholas Hoult, known by many as Hank McCoy aka Beast in the X-Men movies. Personally, I think this is a great choice because Hoult is a fantastic actor and I believe he will play the role of Lex Luthor brilliantly. Interestingly, Hoult was previously rumoured to be among the final choices to play Clark.

Superman: Legacy: “Follows the titular superhero as he reconciles his heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way in a world that views kindness as old-fashioned,” reads the currently vague synopsis. James Gunn will direct and co-write the production alongside Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegal.
Other roles that have been cast include the lovable Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Shiera Sanders Hall aka Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason aka Metamorpho.
At this time, Superman: Legacy is slated to be released in cinemas on 11 July 2025. Though it’s never outside the realms of possibility that a release date may be pushed back, especially one that is at least a couple of years away.
The last movie to be part of the current DCEU is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which releases in cinemas on 22 December 2023. It’s certainly an exciting time to be a DC fan, but I will still miss our Henry.
