The Halo TV show has finally introduced the Flood, in a series finale that might have well been ripped from a horror movie.

While the Halo TV series hasn’t been the one-to-one retelling fans of the beloved sci-fi franchise expected, its recent second season has actually done a pretty good job of hitting familiar story beats while subverting expectations and established lore.

Check out the trailer for the second season of Halo below.

Towards the end of the second season, the Master Chief, UNSC and Covenant finally make their way to the first Halo ring, in a gripping finale that sets up some exciting storylines for a third season, if one is greenlit.

One of those storylines was the introduction of the Flood, a parasitic antagonist that feeds off all living life and the driving force behind the creation of the Halo rings.

In a harrowing scene inside a UNSC base, Dr Catherine Halsey and the rest of the inhabitants are exposed to the parasite, and one by one begin to fall and turn into aggressive zombies.

While they’re not the mutated fungus monsters from the Halo games just yet they’re arguably more chilling and certainly more of a threat than the Covenant due to their unwillingness to listen to reason as their only aim is to feed and increase their numbers.

With season three potentially on the way, fans could possibly look forward to the most horrifying interpretation of the Flood we’ve ever seen, especially if the dreaded Gravemind makes an appearance along the way.

The Master Chief and Cortana are presumably unaware of the parasite’s existence by the end of the finale, so they’ll be in for a big shock if they discover any of them hidden on the Halo ring, or if they somehow make their way back to base to see it overrun with the monsters.
